What to Expect During Your Advising Meeting

During your one-on-one meeting with an academic adviser, you will:

  • Discuss your interests and educational goals.
  • Review the academic requirements for your intended major(s).
  • Plan which courses you should take to get started on your path.

Your consultation with an academic adviser is the first step toward achieving your goals at Penn State. We’re here to help you succeed!

You will schedule your advising meeting during your NSO session.

How You’ll Get Your Advising Meeting Location

Your appointment confirmation is sent to your Penn State email.

The email will include:

  • The date and time of your meeting
  • The Zoom link for joining

alarm clock About Your Appointment Time!

  • Appointments are scheduled in Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5).
    For example: If your appointment is from 9:15 a.m.–9:45 a.m., join by 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time.
  • Check your Penn State email regularly for updates—especially right before your meeting! 
    If any changes are made, we’ll notify you via email.

Start Preparing

Your advising meeting will be more productive the better prepared you are going in. Before your scheduled meeting, make sure to revisit your NSO tasklist and complete all steps including:

  • ALEKS Math placement assessment
  • Course Planning Guide
  • Pre-Registration Activity Guides (REQUIRED)
  • Transfer Credit Survey
