Transfer Students
If you earned 18 or more college credits after graduating from high school, you are considered a Transfer Student. Otherwise, you are considered a first-year student and should review the information in the First-Year section below.
Advising Options
You are not required to meet with an adviser if you have been able to enroll into all of the courses that you need for your first semester at Penn State Harrisburg and/or if you have already met with an adviser within the program.
Advising Option 1: Attend an on campus advising session
- Wednesday, May 28 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Thursday, July 10 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, August 15 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Additional information on these sessions is provided during your Transfer Student Orientation.
Advising Option 2: Contact your department directly to meet with an adviser
- Use the chart below to locate the contact information for an adviser in your program.
- Reach out to the adviser using your Penn State email and ask for an advising appointment.
- Check your Penn State email for the advising appointment confirmation. In the confirmation, you will receive directions for the method you will use to meet with the adviser. Please check your Penn State email often and immediately prior to your orientation advising appointment.
- If you are unable to keep your advising appointment, make every effort to cancel at least 8 hours in advance of your appointment.
- Contact the Harrisburg Advising Center by phone at 717-948-6604 or via email at HBGADVISINGCENTER@PSU.EDU if you experience any problems scheduling an advising appointment.

First-Year Students
If you have earned fewer than 18 college credits after graduating from high school, you are considered a first-year student.
What to expect during the advising meeting
During your one-on-one Zoom meeting with an academic adviser, you will:
- Discuss your interests and educational goals.
- Review the academic requirements for your intended major(s).
- Plan which courses you should take to get started on your path.
