What to Expect During Your Advising Meeting
During your meeting with an academic adviser, you will:
- Discuss your interests and educational goals.
- Review the academic requirements for your intended major(s).
- Plan which courses you should take to get started on your path.
Your meeting with an academic adviser is the first step toward achieving your goals at Penn State. We’re here to help you succeed!
STEP 1: Schedule Your Appointment Now!
We will reach out to you directly to help you schedule a meeting if you are not attending In-Person NSO. If you have not heard from us, please call the Hazleton Academic Advising office at 570-450-3194 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM EDT. We will help you schedule an appointment.
STEP 2: How You’ll Get Your Appointment Details
Your appointment confirmation is sent to your Penn State email.
The email will include:
- The date and time of your meeting
- The location of the meeting
Pro Tip: Accept the .ical attachment in the email to add the appointment directly to your calendar!

Appointments are scheduled in Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5).
For example: If your appointment is from 9:15 a.m.–9:45 a.m., join by 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time. -
Check your Penn State email regularly for updates—especially right before your meeting!
If any changes are made, we’ll notify you via email.

Your academic consultation will be more productive the better prepared you are going in. Before your scheduled meeting, make sure to revisit your NSO tasklist and complete all steps including:
- ALEKS math placement assessment
- Course Planning Guide
- Pre-Registration Activity Guides (REQUIRED)
- Transfer Credit Survey
