NSO Housing & Meal Accommodations

For First-Year Students

If you are living on campus for the fall 2018 semester, you should move into your assigned housing before you check-in for NSO. This will require you to arrive early to campus. There is an early arrival fee of $25 for students arriving on Wednesday, August 15. Because you are participating in NSO and required to be on-campus, we will cover Wednesday's early arrival fee for you.

Students attending NSO have the option of arriving as early as Tuesday, August 14. If you choose to move-in on Tuesday, August 14, there is a $25 fee for which you are responsible. Learn more about arrival to campus here: arrival.psu.edu.

If you are commuting to campus for the fall 2018 semester, you are not eligible for housing during August NSO. You will return home on the evening of Wednesday, August 15 and return to campus on Thursday, August 16. Please note: all commuter students are expected to stay through 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15.

All students attending NSO will receive a meal coupon for dinner on Wednesday, August 15. You're responsible for your own meals on Thursday, August 16.

For Parents & Family Members

NSO concludes at 5:30 p.m. on August 15 for parents & family members. Programming will resume at 8:30 a.m. on August 16. Parents & family members are welcome to stay overnight in State College during NSO, but an overnight stay is not required of you. You may elect to stay in a local hotel, or to return home for the night if you live close to State College. Penn State serves as host to many programs, camps, and festivals throughout the summer, so we encourage parents & family members to make reservations as far in advance as possible (but not before your student makes his/her NSO reservation).

Meals are not provided for parents & family members during NSO. At check-in, you will receive additional information about on-campus and local dining options available.

For other available lodging in the State College area, please visit the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau.
