NSO Housing & Meal Accommodations

For First-Year Students

You will be staying overnight in Pollock Halls during NSO. Pollock Halls are not air conditioned, but a box fan will be provided. Included with your program at no additional charge are:

  • your overnight stay in an on-campus residence hall;
  • dinner in a dining commons on Day 1 with your orientation leader; and
  • breakfast and lunch on Day 2 (suggestions will be provided for you during NSO).

You should bring a change of clothes and toiletries with you; we will provide bed linens, a pillow, and towels. Blankets are available at the Commons Desk upon request; but you may want to bring your own blanket if you get cold at night. Consider bringing additional money for snacks as desired, as the meal card you will be issued for the program cannot be reloaded.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate requests for additional housing nights (see parent & family information below for options) or accommodate requests for preferred roommates.

If you require accessible housing during NSO, please add the information to your NSO reservation. You'll find a space to add 'particular accommodations' on the questionnaire page of your reservation.

For Parents & Family Members

NSO concludes at 5:30pm on Day 1 for parents & family members. Programming will resume at 8:30am on Day 2. Parents & family members are welcome to stay overnight in State College during NSO, but an overnight stay is not required of you. You may elect to stay in a local hotel, or to return home for the night if you live close to State College. Penn State serves as host to many programs, camps, and festivals throughout the summer, so we encourage parents & family members to make reservations as far in advance as possible (but not before your student makes his/her NSO reservation).

Meals are not provided for parents & family members during NSO. At check-in, you will receive additional information about on-campus and local dining options available.

Penn State Hotels

A special NSO guestroom rate has been established from May through July 2017 at the Nittany Lion Inn and The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. (Those links will take you directly to the web reservation for the NSO rate.)

Other Lodging in Central Pennsylvania

For other available lodging in the State College area, please visit the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau.

On-Campus Housing Accommodations

A very limited number of on-campus housing accommodations are available for parents & family members during their student's scheduled NSO session. Accommodations are available in a residence hall. Bed linens, blanket, pillow, and towels are provided. There is no television or Internet connection service available in the rooms. Meals are not provided with the nightly rate, but may be purchased separately at campus eateries.

On-campus space for parent & family members is limited and reservations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.  To make a reservation for on campus housing, please call 800-778-8006 Monday through Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm (East). You will need a credit card when calling to complete your reservation.

We cannot guarantee that on-campus accommodations are available during each New Student Orientation program.
